Baylor's Honors College by the Numbers
1500.
With around 1500 students, the Honors College provides a close-knit community of extraordinary talent, much like you would find at any elite national liberal arts college. Etc. Surrounded by the far-reaching opportunities and resources of a major national research university with championship NCAA Division 1 athletics, students in Baylor’s Honors College experience the best of both worlds—lifelong friendship in an intimate community of exemplary learning, together with the exhilaration of big-time university experiences.
125.
Our undergraduates have over 125 distinctive degrees and majors available to them, and any of them can be pursued through the Honors College. Etc.
50.
More than 50 full-time faculty and staff teach, mentor, and inspire our students. They are not borrowed from or loaned by other academic departments for short-term or occasional support of honors students, but rather hold their appointment, tenure, and full-time responsibilities within the Honors College. You won’t find another university anywhere that is more visibly and meaningfully committed to honors education than Baylor.
4.
Four distinctive academic programs make the Honors College a vital center of intellectual life. Far from a one-size-fits-all approach to honors education, we invite students to consider four different ways of enriching their undergraduate education. They include a comprehensive core curriculum that brings coherence to one’s education (Baylor Interdisciplinary Core); study of great works that endure because of their beauty and wisdom (Great Texts Program); a traditional-style honors education marked by special classes, research, and a thesis project (Honors Program); and a unique, individually crafted degree in which students largely take whichever courses they wish (University Scholars). Students often mix and match more than one Honors College program.
Singular vision.
Everything points to one great vision in the Honors College. We aim to love truth, kindle faith, and cultivate virtue in friendship, study, and service to Christ and neighbor. The diversity of our backgrounds and stories, the multitude of our interests and vocational aspirations, and the many members of our community are held together in this singular vision of Christian intellectual life. All of our faculty and staff are professing Christians. We welcome students of all faith traditions to join us in a learning environment characterized by equal measures of charity and academic rigor within a context of faithful conviction.
Immeasurable good.
We can count students, majors, faculty and staff, and ways of pursuing an honors education at Baylor. We could never measure the good that the Honors College prepares its students to accomplish in their lives, families, communities, and the world. Etc.
