Would the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) work with my major?
As an Honors Core, the BIC is an alternative way to meet mandatory general education requirements, and it enhances most available majors at Baylor! To see how BIC may combine with your declared major, read more about Major Academic Planners (MAPs) below:
To see how BIC may combine with your declared major, read more about Major Academic Planners (MAPs) below:
- Major Academic Planners (MAPs) allow students to preview a possible class schedule for four years. These MAPs give a roadmap for how students can navigate various degree requirements.
- BIC classes will primarily be concentrated in the freshman and sophomore years.
- MAPs do not take into account possible minors a student may choose to pursue during their time at Baylor; however they do give a tangible overview of how BIC fits alongside a student's major requirements.
- Not all major MAPS are listed; should you not see your desired major, please contact us at BIC@baylor.edu.
MAPs by Degree Plan
Please note that these planners may change based on transfer and additional credit, the addition of major(s) and/or minor(s), pre-health requirements, etc. Please email BIC@baylor.edu with any specific questions you may have.
Students pursuing degrees in the School of Engineering and Computer Science who also wish to follow the pre-med track should be aware that this combination will require 30 or more additional credit hours. As a result, completing both requirements will likely extend your graduation timeline beyond the traditional four years. This academic path is rigorous and will place significant demands on your schedule. It will require intentional planning and a strong commitment to maintain both academic success and personal well-being.
For students majoring in Aviation Science, the required course sequence means you will begin your BIC coursework in the fall of your sophomore year. Until then, you will be assigned an academic advisor who will work with you to develop a personalized plan that aligns your major requirements with the BIC curriculum and keeps you on track toward graduation.
If you are ready to commit to this extended academic plan and collaborate with your advisor to map out a clear and sustainable path forward, we would be excited to welcome you into the BIC program.
