The BIC is an innovative program within Baylor’s Honors College that offers an interdisciplinary alternative to traditional general education. Our curriculum connects ideas across disciplines, emphasizes critical thinking, and fosters a close-knit community of curious learners.
All incoming freshmen admitted to Baylor University are eligible to apply to the BIC. The program only admits students for the fall semester, so be sure to apply before your first year begins.
To apply to the BIC, you must submit your application through the Elite Academic Programs Application in goBaylor. To be admitted to any of the Honors College's academic offerings, students must first be admitted to Baylor.
It’s best to apply as early as possible. The BIC accepts a limited number of students each year, and early applications have the advantage of being reviewed sooner.
The BIC uses a holistic review process to evaluate applicants. We’re looking for students who demonstrate intellectual curiosity, a passion for exploring diverse perspectives, and a strong commitment to academic growth.
Yes! You can apply to multiple programs within the Honors College. If you’ve already applied to another program, email us at BIC@baylor.edu to add BIC to your Honors College Application.
Yes, you can apply to live in the Honors Residential College (HRC). Please note that admission to the BIC does not guarantee HRC placement, as housing is limited and requires a separate application.
The BIC curriculum emphasizes active learning, small group discussions, and interdisciplinary exploration. Instead of relying on textbooks, you’ll engage directly with primary sources and connect classroom concepts to real-world experiences.
BIC students gain a deep understanding of complex issues, build lasting relationships with peers and professors, and develop skills that prepare them for successful careers and meaningful lives. Plus, you’ll join a supportive community that celebrates diverse perspectives and shared growth.
Once your application has been reviewed, you’ll receive a notification in your goBaylor account and an email from the BIC office.
The Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) is a humanities-based honors program that replaces Baylor’s university core curriculum. Rather than fulfilling individual core requirements course by course, BIC offers a fully integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum designed to be taken as a whole.
Because BIC courses are not equivalent to individual University Core courses, most AP and dual-enrollment credits do not apply directly to BIC requirements. These credits are not lost; however, AP and dual-enrollment coursework may still count toward applicable major, minor, or elective requirements.
Students who choose BIC should do so with the understanding that it is a cohesive curriculum designed to be taken as a whole rather than substituted course by course.
