Study Abroad Support
Getterman Scholars may receive support for one study abroad experience
Students must choose from Baylor Honors College faculty-led study abroad trips (Externally arranged trips are not supported). Scholars may choose to participate in one of the following Honors College-supported study abroad trips with all programmatic costs covered:
- Baylor Great Texts in Italy - January
- Baylor in Greece and Turkey - Summer
- Archaeology Research in Italy - Summer
- Baylor in Korea - Summer
- Baylor in Oxford - Summer
- Baylor in Argentina - Summer
- Baylor in St Andrews
- Baylor Prehealth in Dublin
- Any future study abroad program sponsored directly by the Honors College
Students must initiate an online application for support to document plans and related support needs.
After approval, a link to a travel request form will be provided. The student will work with Honors College staff to arrange for travel. Honors College staff will work with university travel booking partners to identify the most economical flight to the destination of interest.
If the student prefers to forgo booking with the university, booking their own travel arrangement, they are welcome to do so. However, the cost of the travel options presented by Honors College staff will be the maximum amount reimbursed for the cost of the flight.
Additional study abroad-related policies
- Choosing a fall or spring study abroad trip means forgoing a summer trip; the program fee and airfare are paid for by the Honors College and will be deducted from the $20,000 allotment
- Exception: If a student chooses a spring/fall trip, then only the program fee and cost of transportation ‘counts’ against their $20,000 total, not tuition and regular fees
- If the student elects either a summer trip in addition to a fall/spring trip, or a second summer trip, yet desires Getterman support, then the student will forfeit one of the 8 total semesters of support offered. If a Getterman Scholar is on track to graduate one semester early, tuition for an additional study abroad trip may be covered, pending university approval
- Exception: Students may participate in a fall/spring semester of the Baylor in Washington DC program and still receive support for a summer (or January) study abroad trip. The $3500 Baylor in DC fee will be deducted from the total $20,000 allotment
The scholarship covers study abroad tuition, program fees, international health insurance, airfare, administrative fees, and the deposit for the trip. Ground transportation and incidental costs are not covered.
- Deposits are handled by interdepartmental agreements, rather than paid by the student and then reimbursed
Students who matriculated before Fall 2026 may select from any Baylor faculty-led study abroad experience, but should work closely with the Honors College Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies as soon as possible to discuss potential challenges
