Aidan Veith

  • Biology and Medical Humanities

Aidan is a Senior University Scholar from San Antonio, Texas with a minor in Medical Humanities. He lived in the Honors Residential Community (HRC) for his first two years at Baylor University and plans to attend medical school after graduation. On campus, Aidan is the lead TA for the Baylor University Medical Practicum Program (BU-MPP), Global Health Director for the Medical Service Organization (MSO), Co-President of the Students Providing Aid (SPAid) organization. He is also a Carr P. Collins and Trailblazer Scholar.

Aidan’s favorite reading list book was the Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. He has pursued research through Baylor’s Honor Cancer Research lab investigating the relationship between food insecurity, dietary quality, and clinical outcomes among patients undergoing cancer treatment and the relationship between PTSD and cortisol dysregulation. His honor thesis focuses on the role of cortisol dysregulation in non-small cell lung cancer. Aidan has worked closely with faculty mentors including Dr. Richard Sanker, Dr. Lisa Go, Dr. Walter Mathews, and Dr. Kevin Dougherty.

Aidan’s service includes medical mission work in South Africa and volunteering with My Brother’s Keeper. As a University Scholar on the pre-med track, he believes that having an unconventional degree plan has been one of the more exciting parts of his academic journey. He encourages new students to embrace the opportunities that come their way, explore their interests beyond the expected path, and allow themselves to grow in unexpected ways. Aidan also emphasizes the importance of leaning on the Baylor community and finding people who support and encourage you throughout your college experience.
