- Post-grad goals: Pre-Grad
Caris is a Senior University Scholar from Grapevine, Texas concentrating in Professional Writing and Rhetoric, Political Science, and Philosophy. Caris lived at Cityside during her first year at Baylor and plans to attend grad school after graduation. On campus, Caris is involved with the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core and the Center for Writing Excellence.
Caris’ favorite reading list book was The Waste Land by T.S. Elliot. Her thesis explores adapting tutor training in the writing center to better develop intercultural competence. Caris has worked with faculty mentors Dr. Walden, Dr. Alexander, and Dr. Shaver.
To the new students Caris says: “Don't be afraid to try new things and talk to new people! You never know what passions, interests, opportunities, and lifelong friendships you can find in unlikely corners. I started at Baylor as a pre-medical student, and now I'm studying the humanities. Some of my best friendships started with sparking up random conversations after class. Explore the road not taken; it will make all the difference!”
Extracurricular Experiences:
Study Abroad: Studied abroad at the University of St Andrews in St Andrews, Scotland, for the Fall 2024 semester. Traveled around the UK and mainland Europe, experienced a unique academic and cultural environment, and took classes with students and professors with international backgrounds.
Center for Writing Excellence (CWE): Works as a Senior Undergraduate Writing Consultant. Builds relationships with undergraduate students from diverse disciplines and backgrounds, provides feedback and advice to enhance writing skills, and serves on the CWE Outreach team, spreading the word about what the CWE does.
