Caris Enright

Caris is a University Scholars alumna from Grapevine, Texas, who concentrated in Professional Writing and Rhetoric, Political Science, and Philosophy and graduated last spring. During her first year at Baylor, she lived at Cityside and has since set her plans to attend grad school. On campus, Caris was involved with the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core and the Center for Writing Excellence. Her favorite reading list book was The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot. For her thesis, she explored adapting tutor training in the writing center to better develop intercultural competence, working alongside faculty mentors Dr. Walden, Dr. Alexander, and Dr. Shaver.

Caris studied abroad at the University of St Andrews in St Andrews, Scotland, during the Fall 2024 semester, where she traveled around the UK and mainland Europe, experienced a unique academic and cultural environment, and took classes with students and professors with international backgrounds.

She worked as a Senior Undergraduate Writing Consultant, building relationships with undergraduate students from diverse disciplines and backgrounds, providing feedback and advice to enhance writing skills, and serving on the CWE Outreach team to spread the word about what the CWE does.

To the new students, Caris shares this advice: “Don't be afraid to try new things and talk to new people! You never know what passions, interests, opportunities, and lifelong friendships you can find in unlikely corners. I started at Baylor as a pre-medical student, and now I'm studying the humanities. Some of my best friendships started with sparking up random conversations after class. Explore the road not taken; it will make all the difference!”
