Joyce Wang

Joyce is a University Scholar alumna from Memphis, Tennessee, with concentrations in Biochemistry, German, and Great Texts. She lived in Earle Hall during her first year at Baylor and planned to pursue either an MD or PhD, and eventually pursue cancer research after graduation. On campus, Joyce was involved in Supplemental Instruction (SI) for BIO 2306, the Developmental Oncogene Lab, and the Delta Phi Alpha German Honors Society.

Joyce’s favorite reading list book was Wise Blood by Flannery O’Connor. Her thesis involved examining John Milton's description of labor before versus after the Fall in Paradise Lost, and how this might reflect an interaction with the theology of labor in general. During her studies, she worked with faculty mentors Dr. Phillip Donnelly in Great Texts, Dr. Jonathan Kelber in Biology, and Dr. Elisabeth Vichaya in Neuroscience.

When asked for her advice to new students, Joyce shared: “Take the opportunity of being a university scholar and explore classes that interest you!”
