Kaitlynn Dickerson
- Biology, Medical Humanities, and Biochemistry
Kaitlynn is a Junior University Scholar from Waco, Texas, concentrating in Biology and Medical Humanities with a minor in Biochemistry. She lived in the Honors Residential College (HRC) for two years and plans to attend medical school after graduation. On campus, Kaitlynn serves as the Co-Founder and President of Baylor’s Medical Humanities Community, a Hallie Earle Scholar Mentor, and a Cancer Research Scholar.
Her favorite reading list book so far is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. As a Cancer Research Scholar, she is actively involved in research focused on the early detection of pancreatic cancer.
Beyond her coursework, Kaitlynn brings a wealth of clinical, service, and personal experience to her undergraduate journey. She is a Certified Nursing Assistant who has worked as a caregiver for an in-home healthcare company, volunteers at Ascension Providence, and has completed many hours of physician shadowing. She served on a medical mission in the Yucatán through HeartFire, gaining valuable experience in service and community-based healthcare. Outside of academics and medicine, she enjoys hiking, spending time outdoors, and playing the flute.
Reflecting on her time at the university so far, Kaitlynn shares this advice with new students: “Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Take classes that genuinely interest you, not just the ones required for your degree. Make time to meet with your professors and get to know them and do the same with your peers. Some of the relationships you build during college may last a lifetime.”
