Lochlan Walsh
- Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, and Medical Humanities
Lochlan is a Junior from Bryant, Arkansas, with a concentration in Philosophy, secondary major in Political Science, and minor in Medical Humanities. She is working towards certificates in Global Engagement and Bioethics and is on the Pre-Law track. Lochlan lived in Penland her freshmen year and found local community through Kappa Alpha Theta, her sorority, and Hope Church in Robinson. She is deeply passionate about the Christian call to the marginalized and wants to pursue a career in food and healthcare policy after she graduates.
As well as a University Scholar, Lochlan serves as a Provost Scholar with the Office of Engaged Learning, a Medical Humanities Debakey Scholar, and a William Carey Crane Scholar. Next semester, she will be participating in the Baylor in Washington semester program in DC and is excited to gain real world policy experience. Outside of classes, she enjoys serving as an officer on the Student Food Security Council, a student-led advocacy organization supported by the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty, as well as engaging with her community through the local farmers markets and community gardens. During her free time, she enjoys hosting people at her home, going to Baylor events, and traveling when the opportunity arises.
Her favorite book on her reading list was Interior Castle by Teresa of Avila because of the beautiful way that the author illustrations her personal pursuit of Christ and both the revelations and hardships that come on that journey. For her thesis, Lochlan wants to research the implications of United Nations declarations when it comes to human rights, specifically looking at the right to food and comparing constitutional rights in different countries.
After reflecting and growing over the past two years, Lochlan would give the following advise to new students: 'Incredible things happen when you include the Lord in every little part of your life. College is a time that is going to be full of unexpected challenges and late nights, but it is also full of so much love and joy. Don't worry so much about the little things and don't pass on spending time with the people that you find yourself surrounding by. The Lord works all things out for those who love Him.
