Riya Natarajan
- Biology, Linguistics, Biochemistry, and Medical Humanities
Riya is a Junior University Scholar from Pleasanton, California with minors in Biochemistry and Medical Humanities and concentrations in Biology and Linguistics. Riya lives in Memorial Hall and plans to attend medical school after graduation. Her favorite reading list book was Oedipus at Colonus, by Sophocles.
On campus, Riya is involved with Micah Scholars, Global Health Student Network, and the Ethics Society. Riya also engages in hospice volunteering through Providence Hospice and is affiliated with Straw to Bread, a non-profit organization devoted to a Luo community on Kenya’s Nyakach Plateau, working to foster health, food security, education, clean water, and economic empowerment.
Riya has pursued research through Baylor in the Human Evolutionary Biology and Health lab and the Greathouse lab. She was also a summer research intern at the Lundquist Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, focusing on vaccine development for fungal pathogens. Riya has worked with faculty mentors including Dr. Walter Mathews, Dr. Jason Whitt, and Dr. Samuel Urlacher.
