Shannon Barton

Shannon is a Junior University Scholar from Georgetown, Texas concentrating in biology and neuroscience. Shannon lived in Texana during her first year at Baylor and plans to pursue med school and service in the Air Force after graduation. On campus, Shannon is involved in the Air Force ROTC, Medicine in Uniform, Medical Service Organization (First Aid Service and Special Service Committee), Undergraduate Researcher (Dr. Erica Bruce's Environmental Science and Toxicology Lab), Dept of Student Care & Well-Being (Peer Health Educator). 

Shannon’s favorite reading list book was Emma by jane Austen. Her thesis is on the toxicological implications on neurons, astrocytes, and microglia of JP-8 (jet fuel). Shannon has worked with faculty mentors Dr. Sparky Matthews and Dr. Erica Bruce

To the new students Shannon says: “Try everything (campus events, organizations, interests) and then narrow down what you want to be primarily involved in for the rest of your time at Baylor!”

Extracurricular Experiences

GTX in Italy Study Abroad: spent a Wintermester following ~5 texts and traveling to 10+ locations in central/northern Italy to follow locations and authors of the texts.

Medical Mission Trip with CureBU Philippines:

Minimester spent in Manila and Ilocos Norte at both hospitals and Christian orphanages shadowing and spending time sharing the gospel.
