Christian Gust
- Concentrations: Biology, Medical Humanities, Spanish, and Aerospace Studies
Christian is a Junior University Scholar from Scottsdale, Arizona concentrating in Biology, Medical Humanities, Spanish, and Aerospace Studies. Christian lived in University House with the HRC during his first year at Baylor and plans to commission into the U.S. Air Force and attend Medical School at USUHS after graduation. On campus, Christian is involved in the Air Force ROTC, Medicine in Uniform, Pre-Health Mentors, Baylor Engaged Fellows, Medical Service Organization, Human Physiology Lab LA. Christian also served as a Community Leader during the 2024-25 school year.
Christian’s favorite reading list book was Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. His thesis is centered around human health risk assessment and toxicology research in the Department of Environmental Science. Chrisitan is working to investigate the implications of chemicals commonly exposed to the Airmen of the U.S. Air Force, and how to combat their toxic effects on the human lung epithelium. Christian has worked with faculty mentor Dr. Erica Bruce.
To the new students Christian says: “Get involved in a variety of areas you are passionate about early and stick with them, as being well rounded will lead to success both in college and beyond. Baylor has a multitude of opportunities to take advantage of, so pick a few things to invest your time in. Diverse extracurricular involvement makes college a little more fun, too!”
Extracurricular Experiences
Mission Waco Clinical Volunteering: Clinical volunteering to treat and help patients find long-term solutions. Mission Waco's Health Clinic cares for the homeless and the those living at or below the poverty line. The clinic serves to treat minor emergencies, mental illness, dental problems, and more.
Cure BU Philippines Medical Mission Trip: Served on a two week medical mission trip to the Philippines, gaining exposure to the world of healthcare in a setting vastly different than that of the U.S. Shadowed medical practices of various specialties, and gave back to underserved communities across the country.
Great Texts in Italy: Wintermester study abroad program to complete the UNSC requirement of GTX 2302. Travelled to over seven cities over the course of a few weeks, witnessing first hand historical landmarks and pieces of history mentioned in works like Dantes Divine Comedy.
