My time in the Honors College has shaped my education in ways I never anticipated. Through the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core, I was invited into rich conversations that emphasized character formation and the life of the mind. Even though Philosophy, History, and Theology weren’t part of my major, the Honors College gave me space to study these disciplines deeply. I walked away more knowledgeable, yes, but also more curious, more thoughtful, and more human.
The Getterman Scholarship played a pivotal role in my formation. At first, I was simply grateful for the financial blessing. But over the years, the community became one of the greatest gifts. What began with formal dinners and speaker events turned into real friendships and shared moments of rest and joy. The Getterman cohort encouraged me to live with excellence and humility, values I witnessed in the professionals and scholars we met who lived out their faith with integrity in every sphere of life.
One of the most impactful parts of my Baylor journey was working at the Bobo Spiritual Life Center. Leading chapel services, taking attendance, playing piano, and singing helped me grow not only as a musician but as someone learning to love others well. Whether students walked in expectant or indifferent, I saw my role as offering hospitality, a small reflection of God’s welcome.
If I could offer any advice to incoming Getterman Scholars, it would be this: let go of perfectionism. You don’t need to prove your worth. You’ve already been equipped for the road ahead. Walk forward with courage, steward your gifts with joy, and trust that God’s provision is enough.
After graduation, I’ll be joining Chubb Insurance in Dallas as a full-time Underwriting Associate, a new chapter I step into with gratitude for the community and calling I discovered at Baylor.
